WASHINGTON (September 24, 2014). Elissa Silverman has just received the endorsement of 32BJ SEIU and SEIU 1199 in the race for D.C. Council At Large. Together they represent more than 500,000 workers in property service and healthcare.
"I have worked closely with these two unions as an advocate for working families, and I know first-hand how incredibly strong and effective they are," said Silverman. "I am proud and excited to have them, and the many dedicated volunteers they bring with them, on my team for the next six weeks and beyond."
Once again, it was Silverman's track record as a successful advocate for working families that earned her the endorsement.
"SEIU members are excited about the opportunity to elect a passionate champion for their communities," said Jaime Contreras, 32BJ SEIU Vice President and Capital Area Director. "Silverman has already helped improve their quality of life through her leadership pushing the Council to raise D.C.'s minimum wage and expand paid sick days.”
This marks Silverman's ninth major endorsement since Labor Day.
