Barbara Somson and I invite you to a fundraiser for Elissa Silverman, who is running for one of the two open at-large DC Council seats in the November election. Elissa is a very exciting candidate for DC progressives, labor rights activists, and those who care about the public schools.
I have known Elissa for many years, since her days as an especially insightful reporter for the City Paper and the Post, and more recently as a staffer at the DC Fiscal Policy Institute, where I worked with her on raising the minimum wage, creating paid sick leave, ending the subminimum wage for tipped workers, and fighting wage theft. We’ve had amazing success on three of these issues in the District, thanks to Elissa (and some others who will be attending this event!).
Please help us celebrate and support an amazing candidate on October 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at 3915 McKinley Street, NW. We suggest a minimum contribution of $100 and hope you’ll give more, as I have, but please come even if you aren’t yet sure. I have no doubt that Elissa will impress and excite you. DC deserves a Councilmember like Elissa, with the integrity, intelligence, and passion to help achieve the shared prosperity we all desire. Please RSVP below
